Main Floor Renovation: Villa With A View

As you know, I love to give my projects a little nickname.  This main floor renovation project was no different and I've called this, "The Villa With The View".I met my clients at the Calgary Home + Garden Show where I was at the Ask an Expert: Renovating booth. It was clear off the start that they were on a mission to get things ready for their upcoming renovation project. I was happy to talk about my process and how we could work together and was thrilled when they called a couple of months after the show to say they'd like to work together. When I met Mr. and Mrs. Client at their lovely villa in beautiful Cochrane Alberta, I couldn't get over the view!  It was absolutely stunning and spectacular.  Their villa is a walk out overlooking the golf course.  When Mrs. Client and I sat down, she had a clear vision of the extent of the renovation: the entire main floor including the stairs leading down to the walkout basement.  All I could see was potential, potential, potential!  The villa was full of honey oak - which clearly dated everything (in my honest opinion). When I started to work with Mr. and Mrs. Client, they had already secured a kitchen cabinet company to work with and that was as far as they got.  I had such a great time with Mrs. Client choosing the custom cabinet colour as well as all of the hardware for the cabinets.  During the kitchen design phase, I educated my client about a couple of things to consider including a pull out trash/recycling cabinet that I just love in my own kitchen that is close to the sink.  Mrs. Client agreed and we had that added to her kitchen.  When I was at her home for final photos, Mrs. Client made a comment about how much she loved the trash/recycling cabinet.  I know the men in the audience may not fully understand how mind blowing a trash/recycling cabinet it BUT if you have one, you will know how delightful they are!  Seriously, most of my clients gush over that silly cabinet (as I do with my own)!Once the custom cabinet colour was chosen, pulling together the rest of the elements for this main floor renovation fell into place.  The home's foundation pallet (with the new custom cabinets) was going to be cream.  Everything creamy and soft - ahhhh.main floor renovation

Without going too modern (meaning too grey), I chose a warm green-grey undertone wall colour for the main areas of the home.main floor renovation

With the granite counters being very bossy (and I don't mean that in a bad way - they just have a very busy pattern and it IS the star of the kitchen), a simple bevelled subway tile was used for the backsplash to not compete with the granite.  Medium hardwood floors add to the warmth of this home.main floor renovation

With having oil rubbed bronze handles in the kitchen, we continued with ORB hardware for the powder room and master ensuite as well as for all of the lighting on the main floor.main floor renovation

I am thrilled at how this renovation project turned out.  With my clients doing the majority of the work themselves (Mr. Client is super handy), they now can see the results of all of their hard work. While there is still a little bit of decorating to do, Mr. and Mrs. Client have taken a much deserved rest to enjoy all of their hard work!   I hope you enjoy the images of this Villa With A View.
