A Fresh Start Renovation: McKenzie Lake

I am delighted to present this renovation project that I've called "A Fresh Start".  I gave this project this name as the entire house went through some kind of renovation and this family is truly getting a fresh start!

A Fresh Start Renovation: Before

I see a lot of these houses with a very similar floor plan and decorated in the brown, Tuscan trend.  This is what the home looked liked when we started.Fresh Start Renovation

A Fresh Start Renovation: After

This entire home received a brand new foundation palette.  The new off-white palette allowed for all of the other fixed elements to fall in line with the look my clients were going for.  Every decision (from hardwood flooring choice, to cabinet colour, to counters, to paint) was inline with the new foundation palette.  The main floor and the previously undeveloped basement were the two largest areas that had the majority of the work done.Fresh Start Renovation

Welcome home!

Kitchen

A brand new kitchen was design specifically for my clients and their needs.  Gone is the corner kitchen pantry which made room for a ton of cabinets and counter space (with everything being very functional).  Another big item in this kitchen was the island and it's design.  My clients did not want a traditional kitchen table and opted for a large island big enough to house all six family members.  That is exactly what they got.Fresh Start Renovation

No more corner pantry taking up space.

Since the  majority of the budget was going to be taken in the kitchen and the full basement development, it was decided that the built in book cases were going to stay.  We had them painted the same colour as the cabinet colour.  The addition the wood plank feature (above the fireplace) as well as a new mantle were added to give this wall the update without having to break the bank.Fresh Start Renovation

So fresh!

Rest of the Main Floor

The rest of the main floor was treated to new wall colour and new lighting.  The entire main floor (except for the boot room) has hand-scraped engineered hardwood flooring while the boot room has a tile floor).Fresh Start Renovation

Downstairs

When this project started, my clients had a very clear vision as to what they wanted to go downstairs.  There was going to be one bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry room/storage room and a TV area.  Here is the plan:Fresh Start Renovation Fresh Start Renovation

While there is still some decorating to go on in this space there were not a lot of final pictures taken.  That being said, here are a few images of the basement bathroom.Fresh Start Renovation

A Fresh Start Renovation: New Beginnings

I always love to go back and see any space put back all together.   My clients and I had a good chuckle about not wanting to put anything on the walls - and put holes into the new paint!  It's very common and what I typically suggest is to wait.  If you're not in love with what was once on the walls prior to the renovation, then don't put it back up.  It's better to take your time and be confident that what you are putting up you are in love with (and that it goes with your new space, colours, and palette). As this family comes together in their new space, I'm excited for them to have a fresh start, creating nothing but fond memories in their new home.Sheri Bruneau Get It Together
