The New American Remodel 2020: Sustainable, innovating, and on trend

During my time at KBIS 2020, I had the pleasure of visiting the The New American Remodel 2020. This remodel embraced sustainability, it was innovating, and of course - on trend!

I will warn you, this is a longer post but there was is so much to report back to you! I hope you enjoy the eye candy near the end.

The New American Remodel 2020

Let's take a quick peek at the before.

The New American Remodel 2020
The New American Remodel 2020: BEFORE

The past home was 2,170 square feet and looked like the image above.

I know...you're dying to know what it transformed into, right? Well, here she is! A stunning 7,523 square foot indoor/outdoor living space.

I will be honest. It surprised me at how modern this home looked from the curb. Compared to what is all around this neighbourhood, this home stood out. The barren, desolate looking exterior had me a bit worried.

This design was purposely unique and different than a typical Las Vegas home. Phil Kean, the architect, decided to draw on inspiration from Palm Springs. As you can see, this home is definitely unique in the community where it sits.

While it may not look like much from the outside, wait until you see the inside.

Sustainability in the The New American Remodel 2020

The Mulberry Tree

This tree had two important roles with this home.

  • The entire design was based around this tree
  • It was the reason this home/lot was selected to be remodelled.

Drought-resistant plants

Living in Las Vegas, you may have an idea of how hot it can get. This home incorporated drought-resistant plants for the front of the property with a drip irrigation system.

Behind the Walls

First off, when remodelling or renovating a home, this is the area that no one will ever see. Items are installed and then they are covered up with drywall or gyprock.

Secondly, this is also an area where a large number of dollars will be spent to get it done right.

Although this is not the pretty part, it is the MOST IMPORTANT part (I believe) in creating a sustainable home.

There were many areas and products used to make this home be considered sustainable.

  • Thermal Shell
  • HVAC
  • Water Heaters
  • Electrical
  • Solar

Key to TNAH’s and TNAR’s environmental sustainability and aesthetically appealing designs are rooftop installations of high-efficiency solar modules from residential solar energy leader LG Electronics. LG NeON® R 60-cell panels will help power both homes to support their Net Zero designs. LG’s NeON R modules are designed to maximize sunlight absorption, and they can generate the highest possible power output – as much as 26 percent more than other comparably-sized solar panels. | The New American Remodel 2020 | TNAR |  #remodelling #remodel | Image source

There were many latest green and sustainable building materials and procedures used. You can read all about the Final Performance Report here.

Innovative in the The New American Remodel 2020

Are you tired of hearing what's behind the walls? Are you ready to see the pretty? Where or where do I begin?

Universal and Fully integrated Control System

Think of it this way:

  • Lighting Control
  • Window coverings
  • Audio
  • Media (TV)
  • Video Surveillance

This entire home is controlled by your smart device or by strategically placed in-wall touch panels.

With a touch of a button, you can 'tell' your home to:

  • open the blinds,
  • turn on the music,
  • turn on the lights prior to arriving home.

The list of possibilities is endless.

Age In Place

While this is a two-story home, there is an elevator that has been installed. This allows anyone with mobility issues to access the entire home at all times.

The entire open floor plan of this design allows for aging in place. On the main floor is the:

  • great room
  • kitchen
  • dining room
  • family room
  • master ensuite (with a barrier free shower)
  • mud room
  • laundry/pet room
  • garage.

One would never have to leave the main floor if they didn't need to. I could live in this home for many, many years!

Indoor/Outdoor Living

When you live in a location like Las Vegas, having an indoor/outdoor living space is a must! If I could live in a location where it would allow me to have indoor/outdoor living all year long, I would be there in a heartbeat! Here are a few photos of the spectacular outdoor living space.

On Trend in the The New American Remodel 2020

This would not be a feature home without being on trend. Let's start with the heart of the home - the kitchen.

The Kitchen

The Professional Kitchen is simply a chef's dream. It is decked out in all of the latest and greatest, including LG Signature Kitchen Suites luxury appliances.

The adjoining bar area was also packed full of luxury.

The Metals

There was definitely mixing of metals in this home. For those of you who think you have to go with one type of finish, step outside the 'safe zone' and go for it!

I just want to add one word of caution when doing this (for your own home):

Mixing metals, when done correctly and intentionally look amazing. You must have a plan to mix metals in your home. Without a plan, it will not look cohesive.

Black Matte and Gold

Black and gold were sprinkled throughout this home. For instance, sometimes black matte was by itself while other times it was mixed with gold.

Chrome

The master bathroom had black matte, gold, AND chrome! See how pretty it is?

Elements of Nature

I recently wrote a blog about Biophilia and bringing nature into designs. This home definitely brought it's 'A' game!

That's a Wrap

My renovation head was just spinning as I toured this home. Typically, we have not carried out a renovation/remodel project like this - yet.

Did you know the entire home was completed in less than six months? I give all the credit in the world to the amazing team who pulled this off. Bravo!

I'm sure you all may be wondering what this home is going to sell for. $3.1 million was a figure I heard while touring the show however, that is not confirmed. I also did not get any information on the budget for this remodel/renovation.

Have some thoughts on this property? I would love to hear your thoughts on what you think of this home.

This entire home was curated by an Interior Designer and took months to pull together. While we all can not live in this amazing home, here are some ideas to get the black and gold look for your home.
