Home Office Organizing Tips

Last week was the final week in our 6 Weeks To Fall In Love With Your Home Webinar Series. When it comes to a home office, I actually take a different approach to designing and setting it up.

Needs vs Wants

The first step in creating a home office space is to determine what your needs are.

  • Will this strictly be a space for work (paying job)?
  • Will this space be strictly for managing the home?
  • Will this space be a combined space to do both work and manage the home?

When it comes to needs vs wants, it will be important to know what you must have for your office.  Do you have to have:

  • a computer?
  • a desk?
  • a printer?
  • a telephone?

Create a list like the following:Home Office

Space Options

Once you determine what your 'essential needs' are, your 'occasional needs' and your 'once in awhile needs' are, you can then look at your home and determine where you will have your work space.  Perhaps the best space to put an office is in a closet:

Perhaps your office needs to go into an existing bedroom:

*Separating the area by a curtain is a great way to define the spaces*

Or perhaps you have a dedicated room for your home office:

Whatever the case may be, setting up your home office should revolve around your needs.  Once you have your needs in place, your space in place, then it's time to figure out how to be the most productive in a home office.

Productivity

Although I won't go into all of the tips I shared in the webinar, here is the one that I strongly encourage you do every.single.day:

PLAN YOUR DAY WITH INTENTION!

When you don't plan your day it can easily get away on you!  At the beginning of the workday, or even better yet - the night before - decide what needs to get done and allocate time in the day for those tasks.

The webinar was chocked full of my top five productivity tips, managing your email tips, as well as five design tips!  If you missed out on the webinar, it will be available shortly!
