My Love Hate Relationship with Pinterest
Most people know what Pinterest is. I happened to get on the Pinterest 'train' and was an early adopter of this Social Media platform. I'm a very visual person and love to look at beautiful pictures of homes, of nature, food, wine (who can leave out wine?), etc.
Love
Here is why I love Pinterest!I use it to create boards with my clients where we will both 'pin' ideas. It's a great way to quickly get a feel of the style and look my clients are going for. Whether it's furniture ideas like this
or helping to show a colour I have picked out:
There are so many great pictures that it can really help pin down a look, style and feel much quicker (sometimes) than putting it into words.
Hate
As much as I love Pinterest, I sometimes hate it. Recently I had a client who really wanted a 'fresh, beachy' feel to her combined laundry room and bathroom. The original colour I had picked out was Benjamin Moore:
It has a blue/green undertone which would work well off of their blue/gray family room. The walls in the adjoining room are painted Sherwin Williams
so when my client saw a picture on Pinterest with Sherwin Williams:
she thought it would be a great colour to get the look and feel she was hoping for. Guess what? It was the exact opposite! The SW Bubble was so bright and it looked horrible from the adjoining room. We went back to square one and took out my colour boards and went through the entire process.
Guess what colour we picked out? Benjamin Moore Woodlawn Blue - my first choice.
So getting back to why I hate Pinterest: while you may find a great image in Pinterest, it may not work in your home. You have to take many factors into consideration and starting with your fixed surfaces is just the start. You also have to look at how your home flows. I'm so glad and thankful we had the SW Bubble repainted to Woodlawn Blue. The look and feel is still beachy and I can't wait to show you the final pictures (the entire project should be done in about a week).
Lessons Learned
Just because it looks great in one home does not mean it will look great in your home. It's like a pair of jeans or pants. What looks great on one person may look totally different on someone else!
