Warming up a Concrete Balcony Floor | Week 4 ORC

We are into week 4 of the One Room Challenge™ and we are at the half-way marker! For this challenge, I am tackling my daughter's 61 square foot balcony. This week, I dealt with warming up a concrete balcony floor. If you're new to my blog, you can read about the past three weeks here:

When we looked at options, we were looking at a number of items:

  1. Something that her building would approve to be temporarily installed.
  2. A product that would help take the coolness of the concrete away.
  3. Of course, it had to be pretty and/or work with the design!

Flooring Options

When I saw this type of flooring, I knew right away that it would be a great fit for this project and the perfect way we could be warming up a concrete balcony floor. The flooring that we chose was from IKEA.

This particular flooring is weather-resistant and is made of minimum 20% recycled plastic. All this flooring takes is a little soap and water and a drying cloth and viola - all clean! It's also super easy on the budget!

This flooring also comes in a few colour, pattern, and texture options.

IKEA OUTDOOR FLOORING

I'm not going to lie, I got excited to know that there was the opportunity to mix and match and make something unique. What I always forget is that my daughter likes subtle. No pattern, no colour (except black or grey). In the end, we decided to go with Runnen decking to keep things simple.

It is super easy to install - just click into place!

As you can see from the video, I just couldn't install it in one direction. I know....it's her space, but I have to have a little bit of creative control, right??

Sneak Peak

While we've added the Runnen flooring, I couldn't just have a grey floor. As you will know from last week, the small-scale furniture we bought has red or black cushions. Can you guess the colour my daughter chose to set out? Um hmmmm...the black ones.

So....since I also get to style this space, I am throwing in some colour. Here's a little sneak peek at a little somethin' somethin' going down.

Shhhhh.....don't tell Abby that I'm bringing in colour!

Nothing says warming up a concrete balcony floor like a gorgeous outdoor area rug!

Coming up next week...

Since you're getting a little sneak peek above, next week I'm going into detail the colour that I'll be bringing into this space. I hope you'll join me!

One Room Challenge™

The One Room Challenge™, that is in its nineteenth season, is a widely anticipated biannual event every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Every week, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over eight weekly posts. You can see the featured designers here.

The ORC is also open to anyone with a blog or Instagram account to be a Guest Participant by linking their own room transformations up during the weeks. Each Thursday, the internet and social media are flooded with interior design inspiration, ideas, and encouragement. If you have a minute, go and check out the many great projects!

Once again, we thank Better Homes and Gardens who is the official media sponsor.

Outdoor Flooring Options

While we chose to use IKEA for our flooring needs (everything was in stock and priced right), there are actually some really great options out there! I've rounded up some options that you may finding a home for at your place.
