I am currently working on a home renovation where the kitchen is getting a total makeover. We're talking new kitchen layout, new cabinets and new counters. We are at the stage where we are picking new backsplash for granite counters. Here is what the kitchen currently looks like:I always like to pick backsplash tile after the granite has been installed. When I was talking with the fabricator, he too agrees to pick backsplash after it has been installed. I know General Contractors do not always like that as it may appear to stall things a bit, but here are top 2 reasons why I wait.

When you choose granite from a yard, the lighting is very different in the yard compared to when it arrives at the home. The granite also looks extremely different when it's installed horizontal compared to how you view it in a yard (vertical). backsplash for granite counters

You never get the true feel of granite until it has been installed in your home.

Backsplash for Granite Counters: Reason 2

When I have clients install granite, I give them the comparison of granite to the Academy Awards. In movies, you only have one 'BEST' actor and actress. The other actors and actresses are supporting. The same holds true for granite. The granite will be the star of your kitchen. That means your backsplash needs to support your granite - not compete with it.When I have clients look at backsplash, they are typically looking at it and not relating it to their granite.
