ADA-Compliant Sinks |One of my top 3 favourite finds from Virtual KBIS

February is typically the month where I get to travel to the Kitchen and Bath Show. It is a trade show where brands get to showcase their new products and really show off what they have to offer (showing off in a good way). This year, the entire show was virtual and while I missed many things including seeing all of my design friends, there were three brands/products that really caught my eye. Here is one of my favourite finds: Elkay's Dart Canyon™ ADA-Compliant Sinks.

Elkay Dart Canyon ™ Sink

Who is Elkay?

Before I even start to discuss Elkay's first ADA-Compliant Sinks, let's take a quick peek into this company. Elkay Manufacturing was founded on January 26, 1920 in 2100 square feet of rented space on Chicago's Near North Side.

Elkay Manufacturing Company began as a vision of Leopold Katz and his son Louis on the North side of Chicago in 1920.

Their goal was to manufacture the highest quality sinks and provide exceptional service. The result: a thriving company built one satisfied customer at a time.

Values, Mission, Vision

While finding the best price and quality is important, equally is important are values, mission, and vision. I love knowing that Elkay is family owned, their mission is to deliver the best, and that they are visionaries in the field.

The first ever ADA-Compliant Sink

Elkay has designed the first of its kind! While I was able to participate in the release of this sink, the entire time I was thinking of many ways to incorporate this into future designs.

There are so many great features and what I love is that it can be installed in a regular base cabinet (I'm thinking of aging in place clients) who may not need the ADA access yet. If and when the time comes, if a wheelchair is required, then it's an easy conversion.

ADA-Compliant Sinks - Hello Farm House Look

Typically, ADA-Compliant Sinks are not always the prettiest. The new Elkay Dart Canyon™ sink is a really pretty sink with a lot of features:

  • 16 Gauge Stainless Steel
  • Full spray sides and bottom with Sides and Bottom pads for sound deadening.
  • Product is ADA compliant when properly installed.
  • Raised work shelf at front of sink opens to extra-deep 9" bowl for room to stack dishes, fill stockpots and fit baking sheets.
  • Included is a reversible grid functions as standard bottom grid, or, flip to elevate with work shelf. Complete with drain and drain cover.
  • Built-in shelf keeps kitchen tools like sponges and brushes within reach and out of sight. Shelf accommodates custom-sized accessories.
  • Optional cutting board and colanders are custom-sized to function with workstation sink and help provide everyday solutions for everyone.
  • Material extends to the front panel of the sink, adding a stylish design element to your kitchen.
  • Rear drain placement puts plumbing at the back, creating barrier-free space under the sink for wheelchair accessibility.

I have also thought about clients of ours where the mister is in a wheelchair. We have carried out a number of projects for them in their home and when the time comes for their kitchen, I think this kitchen sink provides some very good options for them. The accessories that are optional look like they are all winners!

ADA-Compliant Sinks

I was so happy to see that Elkay has taken the functional and pretty design to create the Dart Canyon™ ADA- Compliant sink. While this sink is providing better everyday solutions to the ADA community, it can go beyond the ADA community.

Congratulations Elkay on this great product! I'm happy to list it as one of my top 3 finds from this year's virtual KBIS show!

Elkay for your home?

Elkay presented the Dart Canyon™ sink along with some many other wonderful products. What really impressed me, along with the Dart Canyon™, was showcasing their love for colour. Perhaps some of these may find their way into your home?
