3 Steps to Help You Enhance Your Curb Appeal
When you take a look at the front of your home from the street or sidewalk, do you get that feeling that something is missing? That maybe something is not quite right? Perhaps you know something isn't quite right but you just can’t put your finger on it?Whether you are working on your curb appeal to sell your home or are ready to give the outside a little ‘refresh’, the first place to start figuring out what needs some work is to start taking pictures of the exterior of your home. We often walk pass things we see everyday without even taking a second glance – thus the reason taking pictures is so important. When you have your pictures ready, there are three steps to follow to help you decide where to start.
Step 1
Start with all of the front yard pictures. Make a list of all the obvious flaws you would fix and/or change that you see from the photos. For example, in this picture below, it is obvious that the bushes and trees in the front need to be trimmed and the overgrown flower garden cleaned up. The walkway is not defined and the front grass is in poor shape.
You can follow the same steps for your backyard.
Step 2
Take your list outside and walk around the front of your yard. List anything that could use fixing up that you missed in the photos. For example, cracks in cement and concrete are difficult to see in pictures but easy to spot with the eye.
Step 3
Read through your list and choose what you believe are the top 3 flaws that take away from your home’s curb appeal. It is this step where it is important to consider your budget. If one ‘flaw’ is your front door and you don’t have the funds to get a new front door, then use your existing door and perhaps have it repainted and change out the hardware. If hiring a landscaping company is out of the question, spend some time on Pinterest or Google to search great curb appeal ideas. Here are some images I searched that I thought had great curb appeal. I purposely choose these images as they are not necessarily ‘estate’ homes but have a great curbside appeal.
Depending on your situation, curb appeal can take a little bit of effort, or it may need to take a bit more. Whatever your case is, little changes can make a huge difference!
