ONE ROOM CHALLENGE™ WEEK 8: the reveal!

This is it! The final reveal of 8 hard weeks of work put in by countless trades and suppliers that we know, love, and trust. 8 weeks has sometimes felt like an eternity while other times it has felt like the time went by so quickly.

As a recap, here is what went on throughout the 8 weeks:

The One Room Challenge™ is an event for the design community and is currently in its thirteenth season. The ORC is a widely anticipated biannual event every April and October. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over the eight weekly posts. You can see all of the participants here.

A huge shout-out to Apartment Therapy who is the official media sponsor as well!

The Reveal

Throughout the last 7 weeks, you have had a chance to get inside my head to see the method to my madness and how we run our projects. And while there were many little things getting done at the eleventh hour, I’m happy to report that we have completely wrapped things up with this project. While there are still little jobs getting done in our home (you know the phrase, “…while you’re at it, can we add on…”), our bathroom is now complete.

If you have had us work design and carry out your renovation, you will know that a calendar is essential to keep things on track. And while there are times when things go a bit sideways (delayed products, indecisiveness in making selections in a timely fashion, sickness, etc.) I like to stay as true to the calendar as much as I can.

Below is a snapshot of our 8 weeks.

BEFORE

VANITY

We went from a single sink vanity with one pull out drawer for both of us, to this double sink vanity with pull out drawers everywhere. We have more than enough space as we have one drawer that is completely empty.

I love the blue that we chose along with the wonderful Silestone Quartz countertop.

More than enough storage

Pull out drawers are our go-to when we want every space to be fully functional.

BATHTUB

While I miss my very large soaker bathtub, I don’t miss not being able to rest my back and not slip into th water. Our new bathtub is the perfect size for deep soaking.

Deep Soaker Bathtub

Tucked in the corner where our bathtub used to sit, this is the perfect spot to unwind after a hectic day.

SHOWER

Compared to our previous shower, our new shower is longer in size and has a few more features including two shower heads. Our rain head comes out of the ceiling (a bit of plumbing involved with this), and the other one is a hand-held. I designed a large niche to house his/her shower supplies as well.

Our new custom shower

The Mister won the battle on this space with his pebble shower floor.

TOILET

Ahhhh…the bidet. If you’ve been following along, you will know the Mister was not on board with a bidet. This was one of my wins. Waking up to a heated seat is wonderful (if you’re like me and you are always cold).

Toto Washlet

Our new bidet toilet seat.

closet

Last week, I talked about our custom closet and how I originally designed it with beautiful doors and mirrors to going without doors at all. The Mister and I are still getting used to all of our extra space and figuring out what should go where, we do love that we can get fully dressed in our bathroom (with heated floors) and love how our space has opened up without the wall that used to be there. I will admit that for final photos, I did not like the fact that I couldn’t hide our clothes, but this really is reality.

Maybe not Insta-worthy

Our choice of not adding in doors for our closet was a good call in our day-to-day living.

THANK YOU

This was not a DIY project and as such, there are many people to thank.

  • Site Supervisor Superman - Sherman! He is our Site Supervisor for all of our construction projects. He is the man on-the-ground during construction who you would most likely see the most if we look after your construction.

  • Lone Star Plumbing

  • 4 Star Electrical

  • Ion - one of our extraordinary tile setters.

  • NetCore Interiors - our wonderful cabinet maker.

  • Stoned Inc - who always come through with fabricating the stone for our projects.

  • Colors in Contrast - Mike who installs our wallpaper for our projects.

  • Glass Pro Install who looks after all of our glass and mirror needs.

The above team are local businesses that we use on all of our projects. They have been working on our projects for many years and we are very fortunate to work with such an amazing group of people. We go through a rigorous process to vet our trades to ensure that we are selecting good people/companies to work on our projects.

That’s a Wrap

Well, that’s it for another edition of the One Room Challenge. Since we built our home, it has now been fully renovated and updated. We started our entire renovation/updating process with the main floor/kitchen, flooring throughout. Then we developed the basement, then we tackled the main bathroom (for a previous One Room Challenge) and now we have completed the last space - our master bathroom. We are now in a position to either be ready to sell (if something comes our way) or we are ready to enjoy all of the changes we have done the past 8 years.

Portfolio

You can see the entire portfolio of this project here.

This week, I’ll take some time to post some before and afters on our Instagram page and stories if you wish to follow us there. You can also see the full portolio here.

Thanks for following along for the last 8 weeks!
