Look Up - Look WAY Up
In our last blog, I talked about using your vertical space in your garage. Not only does it get your items off the floor, most garages have great vertical space to use!
A space often missed in planning storage options in a garage is the ceiling. There are a couple of options that I tend to suggest to clients that can maximize their storage space in a garage. As an aside, I am not being paid for any of the following reviews.
Overhead Storage
You may think that there is only one option for this type of storage however there are actually a couple of different solutions.
Ceiling Racks
New Age has a great storage system that attaches to the ceiling. What I specifically like about this product (and products similar to this) is:
- You can place those large tubs that you may have seasonal items in.
- You can easily see what is stored through the slats.
- They hold a ton! The 4’X4’ and the 4’X8’ storage racks have a weight capacity up to 600 pounds!
They can be purchased through Costco. The 4’ X 8’ is $199.99 and the 4’ X 4’ is $99.99.
Bike Storage
Although the ceiling racks could be used to also hang your bike(s), there are specific products made just for bikes. A bike lift is a great way to get your bikes off the valuable floor space, but at an arms’ length away during the summer months.
Mastercraft has a bike lift that is pretty sweet. It’s fairly inexpensive at $29.99 each and holds a bike up to 50 pounds.
If you would prefer to not hoist a bike up yourself or are looking for a system to hold a couple of bikes, the Garage Gator GGR125 may just be what you are looking for. Taken right from the website: “...at the push of a switch, will raise or lower four 13.6 kg (30 lb.) bikes or 56.7 kg (125 lb.) of your most frustrating clutter.” One important fact to remember is that you do need some kind of power source. And this is a little bit more pricier at $159.99. Pretty sweet though!
DIY Ceiling Storage
If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, this ceiling storage may be a project that you’d like to tackle! You can find all the details on how to make these here.
Here are a couple of neat storage designs I’ve seen that use the ceiling space:
