Kitchen Design Options
I am currently working on a number of kitchen designs and I thought I would share one particular home where I am providing two kitchen design options.
Kitchen Design Options
When I meet with clients to discuss a new kitchen design, I like to learn as much as I can from them. I typically ask:
- What do you like about your current kitchen layout.
- What would you consider a dream to have in your new kitchen.
- Who does the cooking?
- How do you feel about your current storage?
Of course, those are not all of the questions I ask, but those are just a few to give you an idea.During my time with the client(s), my brain already starts to percolate and envision some options for the kitchen. I always love to give my clients options so that they can see those options in 2D and 3D renderings and get a really good feel of the potential new kitchen.
Current Kitchen Design
To give you a good idea of what I'm dealing with, I'd like to show you how the current kitchen is laid out.As the kitchen sits, there is a tray ceiling that follows the cabinet line. Here is a 3D rendering to give you an idea:
Kitchen Design Options: Option 1
After listening to the wish list, hearing about the new appliances that have already been purchased (as knowing the kitchen appliance sizing is super important when creating a kitchen design), along with the wishes (including trying to keep the refrigerator in the very narrow opening (only 33"), I have come up with two designs. The first design is incorporating the wants and wishes of these clients. Before I show you Option 1, I do want you to know that there is a beam that also goes directly through the kitchen that I will need to work around. Here is Option 1:I've taken out the tray ceiling as the cabinets would not follow that line anymore (plus they were making the space feel crowded in). The addition of a wall oven and microwave were on the wish list. To work around the beam, Jolanda with my wonderful cabinet company, helped me come up with the idea to work in some open shelving.
Kitchen Design Options: Option 2
For this option, I chose to move the refrigerator out of the crammed spot. My main reason for doing that is that if the clients ever wish to sell the home, a 33" opening is not big enough for a 'standard' 36" fridge that most people are wanting. I also think it is part of my job to present ideas to my clients that they may not have thought of. Here is option 2: This plan has the wall oven and microwave in the space where the current refrigerator is. It also has a counter depth refrigerator that is 36" wide!
Kitchen Design Options
Along with these kitchen options are the adjoining family room options (which I'll leave to show you later). What is going to be important when I meet with these clients is to go over the 2 options, the reasoning why I placed certain appliances in the spot I chose (explaining the pink triangle) and get feedback. It is my goal to come away from the client meeting with a clear plan for the final kitchen design plan.
