A Renovation Secret: Conceptual Designs Will Save You Money!
Psst.....I want to share something with you. You see, I have a little secret. This little secret of mine has been a game-changer for my business as it has allowed me to work with clients to move their renovation from a dream to a reality. So what it the secret? Creating conceptual designs for the renovation project.
Conceptual Designs: The Discovery Stage
When I start working with a client and their space, we go over many of the wants and wishes for that particular space. Sometimes the 'must have' list is long while other times it is short and to the point. After I've taken measurements of the space and have a clear understanding of the dream, as well as a budget in mind, I create the first draft of a conceptual design(s). In most instances, I like to prepare a minimum of 2 conceptual designs so that my clients have some options.
Conceptual Designs: Narrowing it Down
Using the conceptual designs, my clients and I work through all the fine details that they will need to carry out their renovation. We discuss things like the electric placement, the plumbing, the HVAC, etc. It is at this time where all things are discussed, planned for and most importantly, budgeted for! As you may be able to see from the 2 images below, the detailed plan is just that - a VERY detailed plan.
Conceptual Designs: Bringing it to life
When you have taken the time to plan out your renovation and actually have a plan in place, all that is left to do is have the work carried out. By having a conceptual plan, you have proactively thought out where electrical is going to go and how much money you need to budget. The same holds true for plumbing, framing, etc. This planning is key if you wish your project to stay on time and on budget! You may be a DIY and decide to carry out the work yourself, you may decide to hire a professional to do the work or you may decide on a little bit of both (do some of the work yourself and hire out some of the work). The beauty in having a plan in place is knowing where your money will be spent, and knowing roughly what your space will look like!
